Questions from Teachers
I don’t teach genetics, could hosting DNA Day ambassadors still be useful for my classes?
We have lessons in several topics that may be of interests to you and your students even if you do not teach genetics- see the modules page for more information on these topics. We do introduce DNA in all of our lessons but do not expect your students to have learned about DNA before.
My colleague wants to join, how do they sign up?
They can join our email list to receive the latest sign-up information!
Are there opportunities throughout Michigan or only around Ann Arbor?
MI DNA Day started in Ann Arbor but we are always interested in expanding! Our goal is to reach across the state so we would love for you to sign up and we will let you know if we are not able to match you with a scientist in your area.
Questions from Scientists
Do I have to teach on April 25?

I don’t like teaching, can I still participate?
Yes, our email list form allows you to select other ways you can contribute to our organization.
I don’t have a car, can I still visit a school?

I don’t have a teaching partner, can I still sign up?
Yes! We will match you with a teaching partner if you don’t have one!

MI DNA Day started in Ann Arbor, but we are always interested in expanding! Our goal is to reach across the state so we would love for you to sign up and we will let you know if we are not able to match you with a classroom in your area. We are also happy to work with you specifically to recruit teachers and scientists in your area- if you are interested in that effort, please join our email list or reach out to us at midnaday@gmail.com
I’m not a geneticist, can I still teach?
Yes, we have lessons in several topics so you can choose a lesson that matches your field.
What do I wear to the high school class?
What you wear every day to lab or maybe slightly nicer, something that would likely adhere to high school dress codes. Not a lab coat! You want to present yourself and research as a job students can identify with so you should dress how you feel most comfortable. If you are young looking, you might consider a slightly more professional look to set yourself apart from the students.
